Contentious subject! I always used tape head cleaners and demagnatisers for cassette players, I have manually cleaned the odd cdp lens. If repatching leads giving them a bit of twist to assist a good new contact seems sensible. Beyond that is strictly a case of YMMV, IMHO. I find deguassing yourself has better effect, one of these; Or if the problem persists try one of these; Sorted

Imo the best sound optimizer would be a little of this: mixed with one of this: It really helps enjoying the music but must not be overdone.

I find that my car drives better when I hoover the mat on the driver's side.
Are you getting any changes, Dale?

It's a strange thing, most gin drinkers don't like vodka and vice versa I have to admit that the vodka has recently taken a back seat to an old favourite (Calvados) that I've found a local supplier stocking as a new line;

From an audio POV I'd say vodka makes sound stay rather neutral while a premium aromatic gin adds a slight touch of fuity richness to the music, though if there is no gin available I don't mind sipping a shot of very cold vodka.

To get back on topic , when I used to drink (seriously ), I was a vodka man and did not 'like' gin. Then someone introduced me to Plymouth gin and I was converted . It really is different from the usual stuff and much the better for it. If you get the opportunity I strongly recommend you give it a try. And, FWIW, Fevertree tonic complements it beautifully IMO . Dave.

Eh, do we want our speaker and HP alnicos to be degaused as well? Then how the drivers will work again after repeated degausing with this?

Eh, do we want our speaker and HP alnicos to be degaused as well? Then how the drivers will work again after repeated degausing with this? From what I surmise, there isn't a major degaussing like when you completely degauss a highly magnetized tape head or a TV set. This one seems to be aimed at re-balancing the magnetism somehow, so maybe your magnetism is like 1/10 percent more negative than positive and the Cardas signals put it back in balance.

Silliness aside, this Cardas program couldn't possibly make a change in a permanent magnet - whatever it does is a million times too weak for that. But analogizing from speaker and headphone magnets down to residual magnetism on tape heads, I suppose there is some kind of field effect that's an order of magnitude weaker than the tape head magnetism, yet possibly enough to affect sound in a small way. People are headfi are pressing for more details, so maybe we'll find out more....

I went there years ago and the visit to their gin factory made me see double for quite a long time. I'm going back in a couple of weeks too!!! They've already been warned by a mod too. He kind of told them that they must be positive or he'd delete their threads. I downloaded this to see what it was - just a tone sweep? I reckon pink noise would do more.

I usually stick to Disaronno or a good red wine. Last time I had a VilleHaute Reservé from Chânes, quite likeable...
The other side is fun isn't it ;-) ?

Dave. Thanks for the pointer D. Occasionally enjoy gin.. oriGINally Gordans, then Beefeater. However, Bombay Sapphire is my current choice. I 'm enjoying the 'Export' version at 47% alcohol; bought in-flight recently at a very good price. It'll take me ages to finish the current stocks but next time I'll consider 'Plymouth'. Derek

I normally drink whisky but down in Plymouth, it's definitely gin. The factory is there. I'm going there soon to spend at least one blotto day in the place. I'll probably take a crate or two away with me to a place I'm going to stay in Looe. Fishing, drinking, reading, listening ... can't wait. However, I probably won't remember a lot of it.

Derek Derek, What's wrong with having two different bottles of gin open at the same time? . This audio hobby prides itself on having immediate A to B to A to B comparisons so just extend it to gin - and be sure to post your results wen you've completed your test by finishing both bottles - should make interesting reading ;D ;D . Seriously, I think you might like the Plymouth variety . Dave.

Gentlemen,
I commend you this:
Cold glass.
Four slices of cucumber.
In glass.
1/3 Hendrick's Gin.
Some ice (a cube?).
Top up with decent tonic.
Tell me what you think!!!
Perhaps the best GT in the world!

Don't cardas produce special wooden blocks for your cables to sit on.they make nice cables, but have a feeling everything else is just money making for them.

Well, well, well!
I recently bogged (and temp. repaired) the cable on my Senny 560ovII cans so was hunting down a replacement. By chance a private sale for a shortish Cardas "The Cable" replacement popped up for not much more than a genuine Sennheiser. Basically, too good an opportunity to turn down so I snuffled it.
I was not expecting much from this especially as the 560s are not exactly top notch and I always approach manufacturers cables with a certain amount of disbelief!
Immediately two things were apparent, a solidifying of the bass and a welcome slight curtailment of the 560s rather wild extreme top end. On swapping back and forth the mid range was also slightly more open and little nuances were a tad more obvious.
I wouldn't pay the full retail on this by any means (I would want to hear a enormous improvement for that dosh) but for a similar price to the standard one it's been an eye opener.
When I get a chance I'll try it on the 600 too.
