At least weekly I have to clear these and other "gifts" from my wifes computer, which the kids also use. They don't seem to read or un-check anything!

Adobe Reader is a pain with the number of updates that keep coming down.
I wish they'd leave the bloody thing alone for a month at least before these poxy things start to download.
It is a pain.

Adobe Reader is a pain with the number of updates that keep coming down. I wish they'd leave the bloody thing alone for a month at least before these poxy things start to download. It is a pain. In Denmark we have all communications with tax, wellfare etc. over the internet and all those poor people over 50-60 are on their arses, I have to drive to my parents a couple of times every 6 months or so, not that I do not want to visit them ,but it is a PITA that I have to work on those PCs all the time.. I just bought windows 7 for my laptop and in the first week I have downloaded more than 100 updates..!! Why do they put unfinished products on sale ??

All this social network crap as well.... do people REALLY use "facebook"? Bunch of sad bastards...... adverts? DON'T get me started on adverts, everywhere you go now there are "adverts"... the WRONG type of people are now controlling the internet, it's smut city full of hookers and bingo joints....
Formatting a computer used to be fun, now all your time is spent avoiding bloody toolbars and other crap.... Adobe? Worse than a virus if you ask me... Norton? a bloody disaster zone.... McAfee? shite on a stick.....
I've been all day at this bastard thing and feel like formatting again... seems that everything nowadays is intrusive, unwanted and highly annoying..... just downloaded the latest version of "itunes" and you can get "clean" versions of lyrics so that children are not offended..... jesus christ, the world has gone mad.

The FIRST thing I do when I install win XP Pro is disable updates.... 99.9% of them are totally unnecessary and a pain in the rectum downloading in the "background" (IMO)

Buy a mac and use the Apple utility instead of Acrobat........... Pain in the ass gone! Yup, I like the fact that you can print to .pdf from the Apple Preview. I don't like that I have been without my Macbook for well over a week due to a dead HDD, a poor (non-existant back up policy for the Mac ), and a lot of aggro, expense and whatnot when I could right do without it!! Some expenditure of time, effort and sweat later, I am almost back up and running. Then it's time to sift through all the data I managed to harvest from the dead drive. Lesson learned! Don't even get me started on bleeding toolbars and other spyware!!

An entire DAY spent faffing about with this thing..... formatted and most of my "necessary" programs reinstalled but, COME ON, this is NOT fukkin' "recreation" is it?
I have never been so STRESSED as I am with these bloody machines... it is so hit and miss.... "computer as source"? All well and good when the bastard thing is working but when it all goes pear shaped it's a pain in the arse!
No wonder everybody is getting pissed and beating the shit out of each other these days!

I can hear you, Mike. Modern day computing really isn't much fun anymore... I find this rather problematic, especially as nowadays there are more and more things for which it's required to have a computer with recent software versions installed.
If you haven't tried a user friendly Linux distribution like Ubuntu yet, I suggest you to do so, though. Installation nowdays is really convenient - and unless you were more than a casual gamer, you'll most probably find everything you need...
Greetings from Munich!

I find the worst offender is Apple, I won't let apple software, like iTunes or Quicktime near my PC. Install them and you get all sorts of other crap you didn't ask for. I once installed Quicktime and afterwards noticed something called Bonjour running in the background. This is permanently running software, using memory and CPU which sits there so that it can "discover" your iPhone and other Apple hardware, hardware I don't have - no thank you, p*ss off Bonjour! Microsoft used to have an "install unless you opt out" policy and everyone got very upity about it and now Microsoft has an "opt in" policy, whereby you have to take action before something IS installed, which in my opinion is the way it should be. I use CCleaner: www.piriform.com/ccleaner, which is a handy, free utility for cleaning all your tempory files. It also has an uninstall utility so that you can get rid of all that software that installs, but doesn't give you an uninstall option and a "Startup" utility so you can view all the things that automatically start with Windows and delete or disable all the things you don't actually need which slow down your boot time and use up memory and CPU running unnecessarily in the background. Here you can see all the crap that Adobe and Google installs and runs at Windows start up that I've disabled:

We use that c.cleaner on our PC, works a treat,anti-virus eset nod32 seems great, they reckon nothing has ever got past it or so they say. Using Firefox and the nod32/c.cleaner we have had no problems. As you say McAfee is useless and very nearly impossible to get rid of ,norton hopeless. You do have to make sure with the damn updates that you un-tick the "add yahoo" google et all tool bar options.Pain in the aren't they. Pete.

It didn't on mine when I installed CC yesterday and had a play. I've had a good search, nope, no crome. Maybe you missed one of those opt out tick boxes I have a screen full of Adobe folders, mainly due to having Acrobat Pro, but I'm a crome free zone! (been there before, cursed programme) Incidentally, thanks for the tip on CC (Owen et al), my overladen lap top has had its boot up reduced from nearly 5 mins to under 2 Still have loads of crap but I use the stuff so I'm stuck with it.
